Europe needs heavily advertised in rm like we done last time and which ended up with a great turnout. Details of the previous tourney can be found here http://www.voobly.com/forum/thread/44127/0
What I propose regarding August is 5th for desert and the 19th for 2v2 Europe. Now ive freed a bit of time im planning on hosting more regularly
12th - 3v3 CBA (Kuvvy)
19th - 2v2 Europe
26th - n/a. maybe master of bloods 4?
12th - 4v4 Smosh as you said
19th - 2v2 Europe
But we had 9 teams over there last night. it was robin system and 3 games per round. 3-4 teams refused to play. I rly cant understand that, they clearly say that they only want to play 3 games whole tourney and get 1st. bs....
Players need to know what they are getting into when they sign up. There was no announcement of a round robin format on the tournament page. I told you as soon as I saw the round robin that I would change the format. To further complicate things you the tournament moderator were playing in the tournament so when people were complaining no one was there to answer them. Lord was extremely confused on what was going on as well as 75% of the players playing the tournament.
The format itself I think could have played out decently. But this format would have needed to be announced in advance so players could know what they were getting into. Most of the players casually signing up don't want to play 24+ games of the same map over and over. I don't even think the majority of the players playing agreed with the format selection.
P.S. I know no one has responded on my other thread but I strongly think that players hosting events should not be allowed to play in the event they are hosting.
I'm thinking along the lines of:
edit; You'll have to push this event back 2 weeks, and start adding publicity now. There are some Europe players coming back but they will need to know early if they're any chance to make a team and participate. Right now I can think of; Myself, Charlie, Leon, Nick, Cloudz, Snow, Geen, Dave, Rick, Hoodlum, Sean, Fran, Cena, Volcom, Naz, Taff, Glenn, Fish, Bose, Madcow, Lyr, Fayt, Nightz, Donnie, Dan, Ben, and possibly 3-4 RM based teams like a weak RVK, Arg, etc.
It can be a good event, if we advertise it well. Need to make rules well in advance too. I've tried to set-up the early rounds to favour rushing, and the later rounds to favour player ability.
edit; I was a big fan of the double elimination format, if two big teams get paired up early it sucks if one gets knocked out early in terms of quality records.
it's gonna be great event for sure.
The rules we used last time i think worked perfectly and i agree with Ben i love the double elimination element used recently in the smosh tourney and i do think we should do it for the euro tourney.
Depending on the turn out, I might try it again for the desert tourney as well, naturally will have to wait till the day
I'm sure myself or BzH can ask Aoc-Zone to promote the tournament on their front page once we've decided on a date and settings. We should ask Dave (Marauder) to make a banner for it, he'll oblige for Europe.
apart from obviously the civs and the double elimination
On the other hand, it could hurt the integrity of the map. I've done my best to avoid defensive powerhouse civs (Turks/Pers/Koreans/Byz(Until finals) and civs that lack Cannon Galleon (minus Aztec/Goth round but Aztec stronger on land)., without sacrificng interesting records and range of strategy. I think the civs have been paired up fairly well. Also removing England/Africa can stop players getting trapped with a non-naval civ (Aztecs) as the islands tend to suck, whereas the other spots are manageable if you lose water.
If time constraint wasn't an issue last tournament then let's not worry. Maybe if we do use a loser bracket, apply the map edit I suggested and give 20 minutes less so the rounds catch up?
Just write an announcement in "General AoC Discussion" an pm a moderator to ask him to move it to news (_PkZ_/The_Prophet/DreaIVIs depending on who is online), that's what i did to advertise MoA & its updates and the TurboRandom tourneys.
If you have no banner, you can use the same VCOM Banner as me (the one on my signature).
