TTF Tournament 2012

Poll: Will Sat, Dec 22nd at 18:00 GMT work for you?
Yes.
No.
Not sure yet.
Sunday at that time would be better.
Day works, time doesn't.

Been away for a while so not sure how well your leagues are running and I notice you currently have a TTF league.

Anyway, I've been trying to get a TTF tourney once a year for the past 3 years and I was busy so I didn't have time to make it happen in the summer like usual. Got some free time for the winter break though so if people are interested please say so here. I don't plan on having points handed out, not that it created a problem last time, but because I want people to be playing solely for fun and good old competition. In other words, this would be an unofficial voobly tournament that would once again be hosted by me.

I'd like to cap the entrants at 32 because of time constraints (where each game has 4 players) and I also want at least 24 players but will make due with no less than 16. I've currently got it setup so that we can start with a multiple of 4 or 5, there will be 3 rounds, first round will have 4 or 5 players and the rest will have 4-6. First 2 places of any round advance. This setup worked perfectly last time and it should work again. I could potentially allow a number like 27 if some groups are willing to start with more players than the rest of the groups.

If you're interested post your name, a range of dates you'd like to see the tournament take place, and whether you prefer saturday or sunday.

There was only one small hitch last time and I think we can get it so that there are no complaints this time. I'm going to go ahead and create a poll for an arbitrary date when we could have the tourney, but again, please post what date/time you would like it to occur (if at all). Official rules/signups will be posted here if there's interest (this post will be edited with that info).

Lastly, does anyone know where I can find the archive of the previous TTF tourney? I've checked here: http://www.voobly.com/forum/view/5408 and did not find it. Oh, and TTF stands for To The Finish for anyone that's curious.

Oh, will it? The post on the current league doesn't give a lot of information. It does say it will be two weeks long and that post was made on the 2nd of December so this poll and everything I said still stands. I'd be more than happy to help run the tournament. Only change would be that I assume voobly would want to give out prizes.

There were 16 players last time. The players per round varies but besides perhaps the first round there would be the same number of players in each game so no one gets an advantage. What doesn't vary is that the top 2 of any round progress.
There were rules on blocking/dropping that were set up last tourney. I'd link you to it but it doesn't seem to exist any more :(. Lag was not a problem and the time per game goes down as the rounds progress because the skill level increases. By the last round you had to be basically flawless in order for a chance to place top 3. If we keep it to 3 rounds, the tourney should take around 3 hours, likely less.

I have gone ahead and attached the brackets (which happen to include the previous player base). It's been filled out for up to 30 players and is very straightforward. The empty slots are for the first round, and the groups before the final group are part of the second round. All rounds have 4-6 players*. If players meet in the first round they do not meet again until the last round.

*Again, if groups agree then the first round could have some groups with an excess of players and all subsequent rounds would follow the brackets as written. There are 4-6 players per round so that there is more of a punishment for doing poorly in a race. This allows skill to shine and weeds out mediocre/poor players. If you have any further questions please ask.
