I play using the compatibility patch. For the past two days, since the updates in HD (4.8/4.9) the game will not load on launch. I can access the single player lobby no problem however. However, every time I launch I get the "age of empires expansion" has encountered a problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Perform a clean reinstall ([You must login to view link]), and your problem should be okay.
