Voobly’s Community Clash: Single player edition 2

badge.png

With the coming of the new DLC to Definitive Edition and the completion of the previous Black Forest instalment, it’s time to start thinking of a new single player edition of the Community Clash. As with previous instalments, the tournament will use the new 1.6 Community Patch.

This tournament will have two divisions of players, a casual division for novice players and an advanced division for experienced players. Read the Divisions section bellow. Prices will consist of premium memberships and badges on your profile.
Contents:

Tournament format and Dates

Tournament format

The tournament will have two phases:
  1. A league phase with three rounds. Players that win 2 of those rounds will qualify for the next phase. Matches in this phase will be best of 3.
  2. A single elimination phase with the players that qualified in the first phase. Matches will be best of 3 except for the final that will be best of 5. There will also be a best of 5 consolation match to decide the third place.
See bellow for more information on the league phase.

Match organization

Players will agree upon a time to play on their own and then submit the recorded games to the tournament organizers. Players should indicate the score and winner of the matches to speed the process of setting the next round. In case of discrepancy between players, the recordings will be used.

Recordins will be submitted either by sending the link to the games or directly sending the recording's file to the tournament organizer (Pancrol).

Matches should be played before their assigned deadlines, see bellow. In case the matches have not been submitted, one of the players will receive an admin win randomly.

Dates

This tournament is intended to be played with the balance changes coming in May and, hopefully, the modified Indian civilization as the Hindustanis. The DLC and the changes will be available in Definitive Edition on April 28th and then we need to work on the new version of the Community Patch. Therefore, the following dates are approximations and may be delayed should we encounter problems or delays with programing the changes.

All rounds of the tournament will have a week to be played. The deadline of each round will be the corresponding Sunday at 23:23:59 UTC-12 (see the current UTC time [You must login to view link]).
  • Registration: Until Thursday, May 12th.
  • Unassigned group drafting: Until Sunday, May 15th.
  • Phase one, round one: Until Sunday, May 22th.
  • Phase one, round two: Until Sunday, May 29th.
  • Phase one, round three: Until Sunday, June 5th.
  • Phase two, Quarter-finals: Until Sunday, June 12th.
  • Phase two, Semifinal: Until Sunday, June 19th.
  • Phase two, Final: Until Sunday, June 26th.

No more than 16 players will be allowed to participate in each division. There will be a total of 32 players.

Should a player not be able to play during the whole week, they should communicate the issue to the tournament organizers as soon as possible.

Absence loose

Should a player be unable to contact their opponent and set up a date for the match, the player that made the effort to contact the other will receive an admin win. In order to receive an admin win of this kind, the player has to submit proof of trying to contact the opponent via message screenshots or any other medium.

League phase

The initial league phase has two objectives: allowing players to play at least two matches and eliminating any players that sign up but don’t show up. The league phase will have three rounds:
  1. Initial round. Players will be paired randomly.
  2. Winners and loosers matches. Players that won the initial round will be paired together. Same with players that lost.
  3. Deciding matches. Players that have one win and one loss will play for the second win.
After this, players that won two matches will qualify for the next phase.

If a player does not show up for any of the matches, the player will be eliminated from the tournament.

Should both players of a match not show up, both players will be eliminated. In order to fill the group of winning players for the next round, one of the players that lost that round will be randomly chosen to substitute. Substitutes will be chosen following these rules:
  • After the first round, a substite will be chosen from the pool of players that lost 2-1 in this round. If no player of this kind is available, the substitute will be chosen from the remaining loosing players.
  • After the second round, if a player with two wins is missing, a substite will be chosen from the pool of players that won in the first round and lost in the second. This means filling the group of players with one win and one loss with the next rule.
  • After the second round, if a player with one win and one loss is missing, a substite will be chosen from the pool of players that lost 2-1 in this round. If no player of this kind is available, the substitute will be chosen from the remaining loosing players.
  • After the third round, a substite will be chosen from the pool of players that lost 2-1 in this round. If no player of this kind is available, the substitute will be chosen from the remaining loosing players.

Divisions and participants

Divisions

Players will be distributed in two divisions, Casual and Advanced based on their ELO.

The separation between both divisions will be done once the registration finishes. Ideally, the 16 best players will play in the advanced division and the 16 worst players will play in the casual one.

Unassigned group

In case the distinction between casual and advanced comes down to a handful of points, the players in the middle of the table will be initially put into an unassigned group. Players in the unassigned group will be used to fill the two divisions once the registration closes. We will use the following rules:
  • A player in the unassigned group can voluntarily request to play in the advanced division upon registration.
  • A player in the unassigned group can not request to play in the casual division.
  • A player in the unassigned group that does not request to play in the advanced division will be drafted to any of the divisions randomly.
This will ensure that a player is not drafted outside the advanced division just because of a couple of bad games right before the tournament.

Participants

Every player willing to participate should write in the dedicated thread, leaving a link to the accounts they’ll be using. They must play all games of the tournament using that account. Players are advised to use their primary accounts or inform of their existence in order to avoid secondary account suspicions.

Please, be aware that Voobly has mechanisms to detect secondary accounts. If a player registers a secondary account with less ELO in order to avoid the advanced division, the player will be discarded.

Similarly, if a casual division player lends the account to a higher level player in order to advance easily, the player will be disqualified.

Seeding

In the first phase, players will be randomly placed in the brackets, making an effor not to pair high ELO players in the first round. In the second phase, players with two wins and zero losses will be paired against players with two wins and one loss. Should anyone wish to check that this process was indeed random, the script that generates the brackets will be published.

Game rules

Game restarts

Players will not have restarts available.

Admin restarts

Players can request a restart in situations where their maps are bugged or otherwise failed to generate in the intended way. After a restart, civilisations and colours must remain the same.
  • The moment one of the players detects a potential bugged generation of the map, they will pause the game to discuss it.
  • If all players are able to see the bugged generation in game, they will discuss there whether it qualifies for an admin restart.
  • In case one of the players can not see it (as it may be in the fog of war), the other players will take a screenshot to show the opponents and players will save and exit the game. Players will discuss whether it qualifies for an admin restart in the game room.
  • In case that players don’t agree upon whether or not the generation is indeed bugged, they will resume that game, finish it, play all the remaining games and then replay the game that had the bugged generation with the same civilizations as before. They will inform of this situation when submitting the recordings. Tournament organizers will decide on the bugged generation and either use the original game or the backup one for the score.
Players can ask for this type of restart while during the game or when the game finishes and the map is made visible. The messages regarding this must be visible in the recording. After players leave the game, it will be understood that they ignored the bugged generation.

Situations that qualify as a bugged generation:
  • More than 50% of the sides on a player-specific gold deposit, stone deposit or forage bush cluster
    are inaccessible.
  • Any herdable or wild animal that belongs to a player is trapped or in any way inaccessible.
  • Any player-controlled units are trapped or in any way inaccessible.
  • Any player-specific object, such as resource deposit buildings, wild animals or villagers, fail to generate in the intended amount.

Laming

Players are permitted to do anything that the game allows, including, but not limited to, walling in resources, blocking or killing villagers and killing enemy herdable or wild animals.

This does not include deletion of straggler trees around the Town Center.

Pausing

Players will only pause a game if they, or their opponents, are experiencing severe issues that are directly affecting the game and their ability to play.

The player pausing the game will also be the one to unpause the game. Before unpausing, the player pausing the game will ensure that the opponent is ready to continue.

Game settings

Game room settings

All parties are equally responsible for making sure the lobby settings are correct before launching a game.
  • Games will be played in the Tournament 1 lobby, using the VCOM Ladder.
  • Games will use the v1.6 Game Data mod and the v1.6 RC patch.
  • Spectators must be allowed.
  • Hidden civilisations must be enabled.
  • A spectator delay of exactly 2 minutes is required.

Game settings
  • Game: Random Map.

  • Population: 200.

  • All Techs: Uncheck.
  • Allow Cheats: Uncheck.

Maps

The first map will be played in DE_Arabia.

Subsequent games will be played in any of the following maps. The player that lost the previous game will choose the next map to play.
  • DE_Cenotes
  • DE_Acropolis
  • DE_Gold Rush
  • DE_Gold Volcano
  • DE_Valley
  • DE_Ghost Lake
  • DE_Cross
All these maps come by default with the v1.6 Game Data mod.

Civilizations

The first Arabia game must be played with any of the new civilizations introduced in DE. That is:
  • Cumans
  • Tatars
  • Lithuanians
  • Bulgarians
  • Burgundians
  • Sicilians
  • Bohemians
  • Poles
  • Hindustanis

Subsequent games may be played with any civilization. Players can not repeat the same civilizations in the same match.

Prizes

The prize distribution in the casual division will consist of badges for the four best players.

The prize distribution in the advanced division will be the following:
  • First place: 3 months of premium membership and badge in the profile.
  • Second place: 2 months of premium membership and badge in the profile.
  • Third place: 1 month of premium membership and badge in the profile.
  • Fourth place: badge in the profile.
None of this prizes will be awarded should players advance due to a random win.

Random events

Should we need to randomly choose between two players for an admin win, the choice will be carried in the following way, to ensure fairness:
  1. The account numbers from each player will be used, these numbers are shown in the URL of the profile page.
  2. The numbers of both players will be added and, from the result, the first 5 numbers starting from the right will be copied.
  3. That number will be used as a seed to generate the map “coin_flip” attached bellow. This script generates a map made of grass or dirt with 50% chance each.
  4. If the generation produces a grass map, the player with the lowest account number will receive the admin win. If the generation produces a dirt map, the player with the highest account number will receive the admin.
This process can be replicated by anyone and will always yield the same result.

Tournament administrators

These administrators will come into play should we have a bugged generation that requires ruling.

Players are separated into two divisions, depending on the ELO. This is done to give a chance to low level players. It is explained in the rules.
