I was extremely pleased with the Smosh turnout despite being very disappointed with my teams conclusion :P.
I was talking with Masta and we think a Graves 2v2 tournament would be a great tournament to attempt for the next "mini" blood tournament *March11th?March18?. http://www.voobly.com/forum/thread/87483 <--- I think this thread was helpful and ultimately built up a-lot of interest in the tournament. I think making one similar for 2v2 graves would have the same result *I was personally thinking the smosh tournament would have about 8 teams... it had 20*.

Also if it says this elsewhere Im sorry but I want to discuss what exactly the role of a VCOM member is suppose to be.
Taff and Targa did an excellent job moderating the tournament today, but we cant expect them to be able to do this every weekend. My question is can VCOM members be used as Tournament Moderators for future events. I see no reason why a couple of us can't spend maybe 1 weekend a month/every other month moderating a tournament or maybe serving as a 'player/moderator' in some cases.

Anyways any input would be great.

Well 1st off I'd like to agree and say great turnout yesterday, though I was in shock with my teams place lol , good job mods.

I'd like to say personally, I do not like graves and many blood players don't it is an old blood whereby most 'old school' players play it decently, not the new players. Anyhow, I wouldn't put that forward because frankly, I feel that there is one blood map, very popular, the 2nd most played blood I think which has failed to have a tournament yet........ Vets blood.... there was meant to be a 2v2 vet tourny which was cancelled.... maybe we could look into that idk. I just think grave has been in one of the best of bloods tourny, vets has not been yet.

Also, yes would be good to clear up the roles of the VCOM members. As I said yesterday, I'm happy to help with any aspect of the tournaments, from advertising to actually helping with sign ups etc.. anything, just gotta let me know.

Well. IF the VCOM are allowed work the tournaments alone then there is absolutely no reason why we cannot have a 'mini' tournament every single weekend. Just split up into teams of people who will work together happily and away you go. The only slightly tricky aspect is getting used to using the brackets but that's simply a matter of experimenting with it in your spare time.

We could do a cycle

Bloods > CBA/CB > Alternative > Combination.

The winners and runners up (or lower if there are overlaps) from all three events can qualify for the combination event to decide medal winners for that month. If that's too congested... it can be spread out over two months.

Then that cycle rests for a few weeks building up to a masters event. The cycle begins again two weeks after that.

I do have to stress this one point though.

Too many cooks spoil the broth.

I don't think graves is a good idea if we want the kind of turnout we got for smosh.

either Drow 3v3, Khans 2v2, or HF 2v2 turks would be good ideas imo

CBF 2v2 same civ would also draw a big crowd I think

Thanks for starting the post Charlie.

VCOM members roles, ahhh where do we start lol. Personally I see all VCOM members as Voobly Tournament Moderators, and hope one day to actually create a new level within Voobly to make this role more official, one day :)
My question is can VCOM members be used as Tournament Moderators for future events. I see no reason why a couple of us can't spend maybe 1 weekend a month/every other month moderating a tournament or maybe serving as a 'player/moderator' in some cases.

Not sure if you all realised but we are now a Gold team ( donated by Voobly for free thanks ), and you have all been made captains. The main reason for this is so we can have our own Tournament lounge to be used for all future events. As captains your all moderators in that new lounge so it makes your VCOM roles more official and your able to help and control much more when we run a tournament.

I am hoping to take over the main Tournament lounge but that won't be so easy or fast, so for now we can use the new one we have created.

Apart from helping / running tournaments we hope that all VCOM members will actively encourage the community to get involved , help advertise as much as possible without flooding ;) and more importantly to help the community feel that they have been a part of the whole tournament process.

One of my hopes is the more active we can make the VCOM forums then the more chance we have of bringing in new players and making every tournament a great night. The more events we run the more players will be dragged here and the cycle just grows and grows. Activity is the key guys, let's keep things busy.

Absolutely allowed to run as many events as we wish, I would encourage anyone of VCOM to run as many events as they can . We cannot give premium prizes for all of them but we can get shields and the kudos of winning , plus I am in the process of getting an official Voobly Hall of Fame created and only winners of our events ( and some past ones )will get on the list. NO votes just winners.

I was hoping for 1 event every 2 weeks but I am all for 1 every week if the members are able to free up the commitment needed. ;thumbup from me and as you all know I am very committed to making this work and grow so I will be available for as many of them as I can. I will also teach anyone that want's help with brackets ( it's a piece of piss ) and my experience in what makes it run smoother etc.

Too many cooks spoil the broth I also agree with, we need a maximum of 3 VCOM ( logged in as VCOM also ) to assist in the running and 1 VCOM for each event to make the final decisions on rulings. That does not have to be an official Voobly Mod like myself or Army as Voobly Tournament Mods, if any of you want to run an event then please do so and it's all your's. Just remember it will become official so try to be as fair as possible and as professional as possible as you are in effect representing Voobly as VCOM members.

All posts for events should be made here, and advertised for players to come here. We can also advertise it on the main forums but as far as I am concerned this will become THE forum for all players looking for tournaments.

I am open to all suggestions guy's this is ours to do with as we please.

Regardless of the map choice I think the strategy should remain the same as what Masta did. Create a thread with a map pre determined *we can decide this threw VCOM* and advertise it for approximately 1 month prior to the event.
I think Graves is an excellent choice for quite a few reasons:
It transfers well to random civs.
It does have a large enough expert base to where you would have at least 2 possibly 3 solid rounds of games.
Its pretty easy to teach.

But like I said this is just a suggestion for next blood map. I think all 3 of Dave's suggestions or Zanchy's suggestion would be fine as well.

@ Taff
Just a couple more questions :P
What exactly do we need to do to host a tournament?
Example : Say 2 other VCOM members and myself agreed upon a date we could host a tournament. Do we need to go to you to ask if this is ok or create a thread on VCOM forums to get approval? Also if hosting a tournament would we be able to also participate in it as players *maybe making sure at least 1 VCOM mod was monitoring the result room at all times.*

2nd question is do we have any criteria to determine awards with? For instance say that smosh tournament only had 6 teams or something yesterday. Would badges have still been awarded?
Do we need like 8 teams minimum or 16 1v1 players minimum for a tournament to have awards?
And at what point do 'rating' rewards factor in if at all?

Thanks.

Questions questions questions I love you already Charlie lol

What exactly do we need to do to host a tournament?
Post the idea on members section here 1st so we can see it.
No approval needed. Your Tournament mods now in my opinion.
Post a thread on VCOM forum and other forums if you want but all pointing to VCOM please
Post the Tournament rules and settings.
Give atleast 2 weeks notice so people have a chance of finding it
Allow any player to participate.
Yes of course you can play in it but 1 VCOM member has to hold the #1 room at all times
Recorded games if possible please and a recorded / brackets thread for players to use.
Job done have fun.

2nd question is do we have any criteria to determine awards with?
Shields can be awarded for every tournament even if only 4 teams turned up.
Hall of Fame for every winner
Premium prizes are given for the larger events, or once a month max.
Platinum , Gold / Silver depends on how big the event is and how many it could attract.
Masters series will always take the larger prizes as they are in theory harder to win.

We could give points as prizes for some events, it attracts the lower rated players but means nothing for the top guys. Attracting new players is always a good thing.

One of the biggest aspects of this is to get more people hosting tourneys so they get done on a more regular basis. Naturally and i think this is important in my opinion while it would be great to have a tourney every week we need to be careful not to have tourneys clashing with each other. I think what helps is just simply posting here what tourney you want to host and on what date and then simply getting another vcom to help host it, i dont think theres a shortage of people willing to help host them now. Combined we can simply help advertise and promote it

Premium prizes are once a month though but badges can be given for basically any tourney as long as it as a fair amount of players. I reckon a minimum of 16 should be used for badges (we can hardly call it a tourney if only 4-8 show up).

Hall of fame for me is all those who place in a tourney (1,2,3) and all the badges theyve earned beside their name. Im going to sit down soon and have a look over past tourneys that i have a record off to try and get a bit of a list of previous winners from. Dont think its fair to forget all the previous winners (as long of course that we can prove the tourneys happened).

Obviously we all want to host certain maps etc.... and of course we need to be fair to everyone. Im personally hoping to try and host one every 6-8 weeks as time permits. The alternative tourney being the next one im hosting. Im gonna get it drawn up shortly :P
