Scheduling:

Every round will last 1 week, meaning each player has 1 week to schedule and play the games before the deadline of the round which is Sunday 23:59 GMT. Your are encouraged to provide your best times and schedule as efficient as possible throughout the whole week in order to get the games played in time.
The staff will be very strict regarding scheduling, and difficulties might end up in Admin Times or Admin Wins.

Tournament Rules:

Signups:
To sign up you must agree to the rules and state your full user name for the tourney and link your voobly profile in this topic.
Example:
[LOTD]_Feanor_
I agree to the rules!
http://www.voobly.com/profile/view/123357741

Signups will close Friday 20th of December, 23:59 GMT.

IF you desire to change your nickname during the tournament, your new nickname must replace the old one on your current account! This can only be done once for each player. This MUST be done via this topic.

Seeding:
The players will be seeded according to the Voobly AOC "RM - 1v1" and "AoFE RM - 1v1" ladders

Restarts:
Restarts must be called for in the first 4 minutes of the game. Each player has 1 restart per round.

Map Bugs:
If a player starts with a trapped boar, sheep, deer or if any of their main gold/stone piles have less than 3 exposed sides then the map may be restarted without consuming a restart point. This must be done within the first 8 minutes!

Dropping:
If the opponent drops, you MUST click "save and exit". All dropped games must be restored!

Those dropped games have to be restored within 10 minutes, else the player having a technical issue will be DQ'd.

A tutorial explaining how to restore games with Voobly is here

All aspects, plus others not listed, will be analyzed before making a decision by tournament runners and others as they see fit.

Third Party Tools:
The use of any third party tool is prohibited. Examples are, but not limited to: Modified game files, syncers, crashers, network throttling devices (purposely lagging programs), and other such tools. Violation of this rule will not only result in disqualification from tournament, but termination/punishment as the Voobly staff team seems fit.

Misc:
Any issues with the client that may arise will be dealt with by the VCOM tournament mods/admins as they are presented.

You may only play on your account, and may only enter the tournament with one account. This also includes playing for someone else if your account was eliminated. Failure to follow this rule will result in disqualification of all involved accounts.

Matches must be played in the Tournament Lobby, (This lobby) and must be rated using the VCOM Ladder! Example: http://www.voobly.com/match/view/9658362
Once you and your opponent confirmed a time to play in the Scheduling Forum, the maximum waiting time is 30 minutes. More than that, the player that came and is waiting must take a screenshot showing [You must login to view link] (so the current time is clearly visible) and VCOM Tournament Lobby Game Room , and post the screenshot in Admin Win Requests topic, with a link to the post in the Scheduling forums where the game time was arranged and confirmed.

Any rule can be added/modified at any time as seen fit by a Voobly tournament mod. This rule exists to stop and punish potential exploitation of loopholes in current rules.

All matches must be recorded and uploaded in this forum before advancing to the next round there will be NO exceptions. The games may be uploaded to

If each round lasts 1 week, then the tourney will last for 10 weeks. (with 64 players)
It could last 11 rounds if there is need for a seond final.
If so, the tourney would end in late february.
I suggest to start the 2nd of december instead to buy more time.

Really? If each rounds 1 week and it's punctual (unlikely) then wouldn't it look like this (hope you can understand. :)
64 --> 32--> 16 (DE starts)--> 8 --> 4 --> 2
> 2 (Final 1) --> (Final 2)
.......................................LB.....8 --> 4 --> 4 --> 2 --> 2 ^ (go up to final 1)

Wouldn't it be 9 +1 if extra final? Ofc, this is assuming the WB +LB were run parallel
Anyway... if tourney begins on the 2nd, when would you suggest signups begin?

Well, I tested FE and then played a few UP 1.4 matches
No problem whatsoever!

Just a few small things remaining:

more tips:
Hey,

you're the expert for this ;flowers

Could you maybe skim through the rules (attachment #1) and post below, if you find a mistake in the tournament setup?

http://www.voobly.com/forum/thread/176605/:843624#post843624

We would appreciate it a lot :)

Cheers,
Little update from Masmorra:

Hello guys here is MaSmOrRa! :)

Chris (Genette) asked me to take a look at the rules of your tournament. Here are some small changes I would suggest:

- I am missing an introduction to the tournament! When we announce this, you need to start with a small introduction. "We are proud to present the FIRST AoFE tournament blablabla" Be sure to write a small "Thank you" to the Voobly team at the end! I'm sure Voobly Admins will love it!:)

- The "Dropping" section is totally out-dated!! With the new Userpatch you can restore every dropped game and every restored game can be recorded! What you need to do is explain the players that if the opponent drops, they need to click "Save and Exit" and not "Continue", to make sure they will be able to restore. You need to change this section completely.

- I am missing a chapter about "Restarts". How many restarts a player will have in each Round? Until which minute must they be called? If you don't want to have any restarts at all, I think it's good to state that on the rules as well, since everyone is used to have restarts on Tournaments.

- On the "bugged maps" section, you state the restart must be called before minute 8. In my honest opinion, that is pretty late. But this is just a personal preference! :)

- I noticed there will be some Black Forest games on the tournament, make sure to state that on these the Map Reveal will be "Explored".

- I think you should also consider adding a Chapter about Live Streaming. Stating which kind of delay you will be using (Spectator/Stream) and how many minutes. Or no delay at all...:)

- When you ask for the players "full user name" on the sign-up, make sure to ask them for their profile link as well!

- I suppose you will have a special forum on Voobly for this event. When it is done, make sure to add to the rules the correspondent Links for the Schedulling, Recorded Games, etc...

Other than this, everything looks fine and I'm looking forward to this event! :)

Best wishes,

Nelson

Good points from masmorra indeed !

Regarding restarts, well I am personnaly against it, in the end it's even, imo it only adds a ****load of useless 5min recs and wastes everyone's time (the players, the watchers, the commentator(s)), but it is up to you guys.

Regarding the bugged map rule, my old rule ("If a player has resources trapped in the forest..)" lacks clarity and is an open door for abuses.
I like the one from bbqempire bonanza : "4. If a player starts with a trapped boar, sheep, deer or if any of their main gold/stone piles have less than 3 exposed sides then the map may be restarted without consuming a restart point.", clear and fair enough.

I prefer the 8 min mark over 5-4 for restarts for various reasons:
- Voobly tourneys are open to everyone, obviously an expert does not need 8 min to notice if his map is bugged, but it may take more time to a 1600 player
- Due to my arena experience I know it can take some time to notice when the hunt is trapped, even for a experienced player (similar stuff can happens on scandinavia too)
- Since those restarts are dedicated to bugged maps and not to strategical restarts for "bad" maps, the amount of restarts very limited, so it does not increase that much the time needed for a match

Now regarding maps: It looks good overall, I have only one remark:
"Round 1
Game 3: Map:Loser G2 Civ: Choice for Loser
"
This must be clarified, is it a civwar decided by the loser? does the loser picks both civs?

on a side note, are you able to run aoc 1.4 & aofe on Voobly and also watch recorded games online & offline without any trouble ?
Last time I had aofe installed was when tmw started, and it was screwing completely my aoc :(

Cheers,

More remarks about the maps !

"Semis (still tbd)
(...)Game 3: Map: Plains Civ: Huns vs Magyars (loser G2 pick)

(...)
Final (still tbd)
(...)
Game 3: Map: Cenotes Civ: Aztec vs Incas (loser G2 pick)"

This is giving a big advantage to G2 Loser, I think replacing those respectively by a Magyar war and a Incas war would be better.

"Semis (still tbd)
(...)Game 2: Map: Islands Civ: Italians vs Byzantines
(...)Game 6: Map: Budapest Civ: Franks/Chinese"

In this one it does not detail which players can pick which civ, for the same reason as above I would replace those by an Italian war and a Frank war.

I will draw shields aswell for the winners :)

Cheers,

(Genette probably forwarded you this already, but maybe it will be annoying for you to switch accounts etc to copy paste there, well at least for me it is 11)

Edited on the other points but

I think there is no problem. I played FE and then was able to play/ watch recs for 1.4 without any problem. Unfortunately, spec mode doesn't work with FE :(

I think I clarified/edited the rest!

Signups:
To sign up you must agree to the rules and state your full user name for the the tourney in this topic. You have to use your HIGHEST rated account also (old/new) As well as this, you must also link your voobly profile! Example:
[LOTD]_Feanor_ I agree to the rules! http://www.voobly.com/profile/view/123357741

Signups will close Saturday 14th of December, 23:59 GMT or earlier if the maximum players limit (64) is reached

Seeding:
The players will be seeded based on Voobly's "RM - 1v1" AoC-Ladder. If more then 64 people sign up, only the best 64 players will be allowed to participate.

-> This is not an aoczone tournament with debatable anti-smurf rules, let the players choose if they want to use their known nicks ? (I don't think you want a drama like the edie vs dziam one, lol)
-> if the 64 slots get filled quick, the signups won't close but will be extended to 128
-> 14th december is too close, let signups open until 21st
-> take AoFE - RM 1v1 rating in consideration too, that will increase the AoFE ladders activity

Suggestion:
