Threadmil-If you're buliding up, or getting vils soon
Murder Holes-If you're or will be rushed
Masonry-For both rush/build up, anytime you need stronger buildings (but it doesn't affect gates).
Order depends on game situation, know what all do and figure out on spot what you need the most.
masonary -> murder holes -> ballistics -> treadmill crane
if not:
at castle age: ballistics -> treadmill crane -> masonary -> murder holes -> guard tower
at imp: chemistry, keep
