AOE2HD UNABLE TO JOIN GAME

I'm recently having troubles with aoe2 HD. I have had the game installed and running smoothly for around 3 months, however I tried to play over the last couple of days and Whenever I load a game it starts the countdown and the aoe2 interface launches with 'setting up multiplayer' but then the writing changes to 'unable to join game'.

I have run all diagnostic checks which all say my games running fine.

The game is allowed through my firewall

hi Yeti_,

This can caused by:
  • host locked the free slots
  • host started the game before you entered
  • You may not run your exe in compatible mode

Thanks for your feedback.

This occurs whenever I load a game, I have tried this with only me in the lobby as the host with no success.

I have enabled the compatibility mode and have all recent updates and patches I believe.

Are there any other factors that may be influencing this? If you require any additional information please let me know.

Yes did a big update. What do you recommend I do?

perhaps a search may find others who suddenly have a problem with old games, connection issues etc.

Found a few forum posts about it prior to writing this post and none of them found a resolution or at least didn't post it.

I don't know your PC setup but try to Disable Hardware acceleration & Disable display scaling on high DPS settings

Were you able to play before the update? If so please backup to the last date you were able to play or remove the update for now.

If none of that works then please try a Clean Install.

Can't roll back the windows update I just don't see that as a viable option.

Guess i'll try the clean installation and see what happens.
