So I have a Steam HD version of Age of Empires II and I have been trying to get it work with Voobly, but the game crashes every time when I try to start a game.

I have been trying to follow this guide:
https://support.voobly.com/display/vkb/KB1054+Clean+installation+of+Aoe2HD+with+compatibility+patch

but the game still crashes when I start a game.
I have reinstalled the game 4 times, but nothing seems to work.

There might be one explanation however. I haven't followed part 14 of the guide, because I wan't to install AoE2 to my outer hard drive.

So now I just need to install the game to the main drive and, everything will be okay right?

NO.
I can't do anything anymore. Another glitch has appeared from nowhere, and it's way worse.
When I go to the lobby with Voobly it starts to download some update, but then I see this error message:

You must login into Voobly to view image

Then the download goes to 100%, but it never ends.
Then something even weirder happens and I get TWO update windows at the same time for some reason, but the update never ends!!

You must login into Voobly to view image

I tried to reinstall Voobly, but it still can't download the update and weird glitches happen.

Will this nightmare never end?
Can I just play the game without everything breaking apart?

Luckily this is not the only computer that I can use, so I could try it with another one...

Please try enabling the User Account Control, if not already the case:

And could you please post the result of the game diagnostics result? Thank you.

Please understand that installations with a changed installation path are NOT supported.

Now I try to change the directory of the game in Voobly to my main hard disk but I can't find the damn settings menu for that. Where is the setup to change your game location because right now Voobly thinks that it's in the outer volume when it isn't anymore.

You must perform a clean installation of the Voobly client, in order to change the directory.

So I preformed a clean installation of Voobly and now it thinks that my game directory is in home Documents. ;?

Like I deleted the software and deleted all files that it left behind, then I installed Voobly again and now it says that my game directory is home - documents.

I'm not even trolling you or anything, something has to be broken :(

Uninstall the game, then the Voobly client. Then follow the articles below, in that order. First the Voobly client, then the game.

I did everything you asked!

I enabled the User Account Control
I disabled my antivirus
I uninstalled everything, and I made a clean install by following the guide
I made sure that the game is in right directory in my C drive
I made sure that the game directory of Voobly is correct
I followed the guide closely to install the patch and everything
I managed to update Voobly and Age of Empires 2

But it still crashes when I start a game, giving me a "Age of Empires II Expansion stopped working"
error message.

Here is my game diagnostics result:

Thank you very much! I finally managed to make it work. ;good
It works when I launch the game in small window mode.

However now there is one final problem.
I can only make the game resolution/window size bigger when the game has already begun ;?

Great. Now in order to fix your last problem with the game resolution, simply go into options / game settings and apply the desired resolution OR launch single player through Voobly and set the desired resolution in settings. :)
