So I was playing a lot of aoe2 the conquerors in voobly until version 1.5RC was released on voobly.
I played 1.4 versions without any sort of problems but with 1.5 versions the game doesn't start
and gives me the following error message.

"Couldn't initialize graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw"

I'm running this game, with windows 10, in a 2016 pc that can for sure run the game as I can play Aoe2Hd and 1.4 versions without problems.

Help would be appreciated

Game room settings:

4. Please select 1.5RC and start the game in [You must login to view link] menu from the drop-down list.
5. Press Launch.
6. Adjust your resolution in the settings menu to your preference.
7. Exit.

If the suggestions above did not work, please try:

Thank you for your reply as you soved my problem.
I searched the whole internet and you where the only one that actualy helped!!
But I just got a little problem, when I open the game it goes on fullscreen and I get only a corner of
the game screen. The confirm button in the options menu is not accessible so I cant change the resolution.
If you could help me out with this one it would be apreciated.

1. Open up a Game Room:

2. Launch the game

3. Press F10 on your keyboard and click on Options:
4. Select the resolution you desire and press Enter on your keyboard

Hi after a long process of trying to play AoE on my mac i finally got it to work. Only thing is I can only play single player and haven't been able to play multi player on steam nor voobly. I downloaded playonmac and launch steam from there and then launch aoe and able to play. I downloaded voobly but every time I open a lobby this message appears. Help would be much appreciated.

Non-DirectPlay game path is 'c:\program files\voobly\gamedata\aoc'
Verifying 'c:\program files\voobly\gamedata\aoc\language_x1.dll' exists...
Failure!

The file was not found at the location the registry said it should be. The registry keys need to either be fixed or the game needs to be moved to the proper location.

I have yet to find someone who successfully have been able to run Voobly/AoC using POM. According to the internet, PlayOnMac seems to not work anymore which is due to a later steam update.
My suggestion is to use Bootcamp instead.
