Hello there. I noticed on some DE streams that a new visual mod is spreading out; apparently, it's called "Age of Mandala". It shows the range of Town Centers, Towers and Castles. This is a post on AOEZone about it:

This is what it looks like for Towers:

I never saw anything like this on Voobly. I just checked again the visual mod list and found nothing. Do you think it's even possible to create a port of this for Voobly/AOC? Is anyone interested in doing it? I'd give it a try but not only I'm not sure it can be done, I barely know anything about Genie editor and stuff like that ;sweating

Anyhow, I just wanted to open a topic about this here and see what you think about it.

This can be done with visual mods. It would be interesting if someone does something similar for Voobly.

They split it in several mods:

I don’t think you can port it using the mods themselves though. The graphics in AOC is entirely different than in DE, after all. But I don’t know, maybe it’s possible.

This is cool, but keep it only for your own ranged buildings, if it shows circles for enemy buildings too, it would be kinda unfair, easier to dodge it.

The DE mod shows both your towers/castles/town centres and your enemy’s ranges. I agree with you that it’s kinda unfair, but I think it’s because the files are modified regardless. From my poor understanding of visual modding, I think they modified these structures’ graphics and added those “circles” in order to show the range. So, it doesn’t matter if they’re yours or not, it’s the same for the graphics.

Also, I think the whole point of this mod is exactly making easier to dodge the enemy’s structures (and maybe allowing you not to place useless towers when trushing). I personally don’t think it would change much though; if you have some grid mod, you can already tell the ranges (provided you know them). This mod wouldn’t be much more “cheating” than the one who gives you more informations about the units in the game.

If they make it data mode so that its a patch like allied vision and other mods, then it would be enabled for all. Agree with the grid mod, but it is way harder to tell. Which mod gives more information about units? Its already in game i guess?

I was referring to this one: https://www.voobly.com/gamemods/mod/438/Pro-Mod
Edit: this one as well: https://www.voobly.com/gamemods/mod/665/Max-Extended-Help

Well, if it were a data mod, I think it would be perfectly fine, you're right. But it's not such a huge advantage that people would prefer using it over Allied Vision, for example.
One could argue that it's just the same for Small Trees though. Those who don't use it are clearly at disadvantage, but it's just a visual mod and your opponent may not have it at all.
Does anyone know what's the criterion for Visual Mods on Voobly to be considered "fair"? Is anything that's achievable by modifying the graphics acceptable? As far as I gathered by looking at the DE mods, there doesn't seem to be any limitations, provided it's not something that changes the game mechanics. And that's why mods like this one or like the one which highlights the unit who's getting converted by a monk (I don't remember the name. Just look on Reddit, there was a post about it a few days ago) are spreading out on DE.
