We don't keep them forever, we only keep the past 2 TB of recorded games. At this time, it means you can back approximately two years.

Yeah, but the problem does not exist on filesystem level, it's at the database level. The huge amounts of data in filesystem isn't really the problem. However, keeping up such a service with database and web services would cost additional hundreds of dollar every year and given the lack of interest / only few people that would actually use the service, the idea is simply uneconomic.

if there was an expectation that games played on voobly.com will stay on voobly.com forever, and won't be removed or taken offline like history has shown to be the case when corporate interests wane or waver, it could gain some immortal traction.

my expectation is that the problem lies in external conflicts of interest, that want to keep less regulated ways of playing (like voobly) inferior to whatever is on sale now.

Until 2014 we only kept data for 90 days, then we went up to five years in 2015 and with our new hardware in 2023 we reduced this to 2 TB in total. This is a community project without any commercial interest, and we can only work with the money we have. Especially if players tend to throw their money at streamers.
