So one of the cool dudes called +kwin informed me upon inquiry that the in game and pre game chats may be down and we're not sure when/if they'll return. I wouldn't mind it too much since I guess one could always download a particular game's recording from the relevant player's perspective you are interested in whose chats but since the downloading and running recs manually(vs the automatic watching of recordings via Voobly rooms) is already riddled with problems of its own, I urge the Voobly team to expedite the recovery of said chats so as to save our collective time and also re-establish the convenience of proof for the multiple reasons which these chats may be accessed for.

Best,
Promisetheus.

The Federal State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of an EU member state has enjoin Voobly to refrain from disclosing any “private chats” that occur before, during and after the game without the explicit agreement of every player as this would violate the General Data Privacy Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union.

While such a demand from an EU state sounds absurd, the simple workaround, even if there are actual legal issues, is to add this to the Voobly privacy policy(the one users have to tick/agree to before downloading/updating the Voobly client) that users are divulging information from chats of their own accord and it is deemed public. The reason I say this is because the merits of having public chats far outweigh the downsides.

You are aware that we must comply with the laws and that court decisions must be followed? Privacy laws in other countries such as the US or the rest of the world are much less restrictive.
